Creativity

Books for children always emphasize on techniques to develop creativity within a child. Our teachers always say that creativity is important. Why, in the world, is creativity so important?

First and foremost, creativity is essential in the field of arts. People like Leonardo da Vinci (who makes great paintings and sculpture), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (who produced great music pieces) and William Shakespeare (who written wonderful plays and literature that are talked by people until now) are all creative people. These kind of people makes life more entertaining and colorful. Imagine a world with only conservative architect; They wouldn't such a thing as KLCC or KLIA. Imagine a world without creative song writers (No hit songs!!!) and script writers (No great drama means I'm gonna go mad!!!).

However, people who says creativity is only applicable on that area is an idiot. Hurm ... That's maybe too harsh. Let just say that they are half right. We can use our creativity in our daily life and it can be a very useful social tool.

Ever met people who are annoying to you; For example they always imitates your speech or ask an obvious question (Asking "What are you eating?" while you're holding a cone of ice cream rings a bell?). Many of us sometimes let these things get to us but with a little creativity (In other word being sarcastic, but hey ... sarcasm needs creativity don't they?) we can get back to these people. For example, if you guys have watched American Wedding, here's a dialogue between Stifler and Finch. Only read the example if you're 18 and above. Read at your own risks.

Stifler: Yeah, mother fucker.

Normal people will just get mad or let it go, but with a manipulation of situation and creativity (Yes ... Yes ... Sarcasm) you can get the situation to be on your side.

Then, in dakwah. Some people want to give advice to others but their way sometimes doesn't penetrates neither heart nor mind. For example, a bunch of people wearing purdah saying to a Muslim girl who doesn't wear their hijab that she's sinful and all. Although it's correct, I doubt many people would change because of the advice. In addition to saying things like that and wearing purdah some more, these so called "sinful" girls will only get hurt (Girl can be easily offended with words from purdah/tudung-labuh-wearing girl from what I hear). With a twist of words, the situation can be different. I mean REALLY different. With a soft voice, they can say "Why not put on a headscarf? It'll look good on you.".And THEN the fact that these girl who wears purdah/tudung labuh will make the other girls thoughtful and I bet they will give a serious thought about it, if not start wearing tudung.

The last thing I can think of the word creativity before my creativity for tonight dries (God, what am I talking about?) is the development of new technology since the dawn of mankind. Human beings created (Creativity means the power or ability to create something rather than imitate.) transportation; caravans, grand ships, cars, air planes and space shuttles. Thanks to creativity, we can walk around town while hearing to our iPod or send emails to our friends while munching a good Big Mac at Mc Donalds.

Creativity can also be apply to teaching methods, problem solving, talking skills and many other areas. So guys, encourage yourselves to become creative and be enlightened. Without creativity we won't be having cars, iPods, music and so many more. Heck, without creativity we would walk on this planet bare naked not feeling anything cause we're not creative enough to imagine.
